Nosferatu

jpg

Above is a lifesize model of the infamous vampire, and the quality of the casting and painting is incredible. (It is hand painted.) Cousin Pete sent this picture (he is heavily into this craft); I can imagine a room filled with this stuff - would very seriously creep me out.

A creepy clip from the latest "Nosferatu" movie....

While Nosferatu is scary cool, and the weather outside is frightful, I watched Bruce Brown's "The Endless Summer" - the original copy, not the new-ish digitized copy.
Beautiful beautiful movie.

We all want to live a long life, but no one wants to get old !!!
Here's the FaceApp prediction of my future self....

What's up today? Feb.12

jpg Well to start with, cold-brewed tea isn't all it's reputed to be. Despite the internet hoopla, it simply tastes like tea.

Next: I got this bug to convert some of my DVD movies to mp4 files. Not for any passionate reason, but to see if my life gets better being able to watch an occasional movie on my tablet. I don't have glorious hopes, but the adventure of doing this seems to be worth the trip.

I am using a program called Handbrake - it has lots of complexity, but I'm sticking to simple DVD-mp4 conversion. So far I've done a variety of maybe 12 movies.

Will this drive me to upgrade my tablet to one with a built-in SD card reader. ??? Only time will tell.

At this very moment, while I type, my CD player is upstairs Bluetoothing "Thelonious Monk's Greatest Hits" directly into my electronic-ized auditory nerves. (Life's good.) As I listen, it's clear why his nickname was "Melodious Thunk" - very very cool, but heavy handed on the keys.

I stumbled into the NYC Transit Museum website the other day, and it definitely took me back a long ways. I do remember riding in these trains with woven cane seats, plenty of standing room, incandescent lights and arm hangers.

Bonus Clip from "King of Jazz" (1930)

Okay, that's my dose of nostalgia for the moment.

Well, it was a bad week for me and still not out of the forest. Had some serious digestive problems last Sunday. Spent some hours in the ER and today at a gastro___ doctor. Going for a colonoscopy next week, but the apparent problem is one or two hernias that will need surgery.

Living on hard boiled eggs, bananas, grapes, crackers, apple sauce and water.

Went off Eliquis for 3 days, but back on it as of an hour ago. Keep my fingers crossed that doesn't cause me more problems.

jpg I Made it to 75 !!!

Sun is shining, cats are sleeping in their favorite places, I am surfing the www and watching a Youtube kayak trip down a muddy river (that I will change as soon as I finish typing).

Going to tell everyone that I went to Zion National Park for my birthday......

I opened a page to dump my oldtime pictures and postcards:
Old Times.

The page is kind of a mess, I haven't really edited it yet, but it's a place for me to put stuff for now.

Someone to watch over me

These days I have a whole team of people who are actively "watching over me": general practice dr. / cardiologist / gastrointestinal dr. / urologist / hernia surgeon / audiologist / audio-speech therapist / dental surgeon.

Not to mention Deb's personal ambulance & drug and food shopping service or Mike's parental care service.

Feeling old? Who? Me?
