Cleaning up computer files, I found this from Aug.1998. Deb's parents and mine !!
My parents in this picture were the age I am today.
Just found out how easily my front bumper can get pulled off the car.
It's 100% plastic !
Aside from that, I got back to coloring last night as a relaxation thing.
"Am I on camera?"
I am cleaning files and digging up bones today.
Here is a clip from Dad's 8mm home movie (late 1953 / early 1954).
Me, Bobby, Sally & Terie.
I was 8, we lived on the 2nd floor of Grandma Leo's house. This was a very hot movie, and I saw it on two consecutive Saturdays - got 50¢ from my mother TWICE! for the same movie - but it was a "must see" matinee.
Seeing it as an 8YO, I thought it was exciting and highly enjoyable.
But it's really a tragic story - atom bomb thaws out an animal frozen for 100M years. The poor thing has no idea what exactly the f### is going on, and it rampages through New York (it was bound to be either NY or Tokyo, right?). Ultimately, as you already guessed, the same morons that exploded the bomb that unfroze it, get to shoot it with a radioactive bazooka and kill it. And we all lived happily ever after.
Audiences in 1953 never questioned who the heroes were in these types of movies. The "monster" was the bad guy, not a victim. The movie stars were the heroes for killing some poor dinosaur that survived 100M years in ice only to be woke up by an atomic bomb and then killed by the "heroes". The "monster" was "bad" and that was that. And instead of going to prison for all the chaos and damage they unleashed, and the lives that were lost, the leading characters became "heroes".
Happily.... it was just a movie.
So ... to celebrate Emma's recent birthday, we had an excellent lunch with Emma and Elise at Via in Worcester. As ever, the talk was fascinating and covered lots of topics though the background noise was bad and my poor brain had to work at "word processing".
Love these .... is "girls" still an acceptable term ? Or am I about to be "cancelled" ?? Anyway, I love them.
So .... Mike showed up with boxes of vintage camera gear he bought from ...?... and I have been slowly examining and cleaning the stuff (some very moldy stuff, and mold - fungus - loves to ruin camera gear).
Happily there is some nice stuff in there and is I can find batteries, chargers and wires I may get a lot of the cameras up and running at some point.
Then what ? Good question.
Dolores O'Riordan .... made some wonderful music with The Cranberries.
Somehow I stumbled into their stuff years back and got to really appreciate there work.
She made different video interpretations of her songs and most are now on Youtube.
Sadly she died in 2018, and I was surprised at how upset I got about that.
Inspired by that little movie I mentioned above (there is a young photographer in it), I dug out a pinhole lens and clicked some pictures. They always come out dreamy and dramatic.
