Dave's Journal, Mar2022
Drove (to Alewife parking) and train'd down (the Red line) 3 stops with Bill M, an old GE buddy.
(Noticed how young college kids are getting.)
The museum is medium size and has a very nice mixed collection paintings, photographs, sculptures and ceramics. Small, pleasant inside courtyard near the tiny cafeteria.
Back in time, this was the poor (Italian) immigrant neighborhood. Typically 3-family brownstone apartment homes right of the ship landing docks from Europe.
My grandparents rented, then owned this detached house that was once a mortuary or funeral home (1900 or so).
Cousin Pete keeps me up to date on what's going on there.
Today, you can't afford one of these buildings. Although in this particular case, much $$$$ has been spent on modernization and upgrades.
Back in 1945, when I was born, Dad was in the army in Europe and Mom lived in this house with her parents. She walked to the hospital to get me born !! (about 1/3 mile, per Google maps)
Went to the local art museum to get out of the house today. It's nice, small but always has something interesting.
The most interesting stuff today was wedged into the hall / ramp between buildings - 11 paintings by a young artist from South Korea (now lives in Boston).
As I said before, I am not a major fan of abstract art, but some of it is nice to look at; and this stuff is nice.
He has a website that shows off his work better than I could:
