Dave's Journal, Sept2021
At Kimball's yesterday. Ran into Bob M. showing his lovely 1968 Cougar.
Favorite picture of the day . . .
Well . . . Catherine suggested that I look into online courses, just to keep my brain tuned and oiled. I agreed, went snooping around (started at AARP) and signed up for . . . .
Boy am I nervous.
Ingrid Pitt was possibly the most popular Hammer Films vampire actress.
And Cousin Pete was a big fan .....
This is his latest model (just completed): "After the mishap with the sealer, I actually painted this with no less than 5 different skin and hair colors (normal, undead black hair, blond hair, etc). This I think is the best combo."
Excellent instructor and technically excellent course outline.
But I can tell that I'm never going to "get it".
My goal at this point is to try to understand what other people are seeing in this stuff, even if my reaction seems always to be "So what? What emotion does it excite to notice the taped line is slightly jagged at the edge? Or that if you look closely you can see a few brush hairs left behind?"
Trying hard to put my primitive mind aside and get into this stuff, but I have doubts. Doubts.
Michael and Jake were up for the weekend, and met us there. Excellent day. Lots of people, lots of walking.
It's getting cool at night and thinking that the air conditioners need to come out next few weeks. Leafs are starting to come down from some trees.
Well . . . bought an eggplant and made up a recipe for an eggplant appetizer (back in Brooklyn, we bought this in cans and I loved it as a kid). I totally winged this - onions, sweet peppers, garlic, salt (needed a lot !), black pepper, Italian herbs and eggplant cubes in oil. It wasn't bad. Not great but not bad. Needs some tomato flavor (sofrito ??).
